Established in 1950, Oakland, FL initially only had a population of 545 individuals. As for attractions in the area, they are quite limited due to the relative size of the city. There is only one park, Speer Park, which is located near the downtown area of Oakland. Oakland does offer access to the West Orange Trail, which is a trail for bicyclists and those who would like a scenic route to walk. Only a short drive from Oakland and you will find yourself at Stoneybrook West Golf Course, one of the nicer courses on the western side of Orlando. It is a full 18-hole course that meanders through a beautiful community. Additionally, Johns Lake offers plenty in the way of watersports and activities. You will often find local citizens paddle boarding, wake boarding and jet skiing during sunny summer days. There are also a couple of parks that line this lake with nice areas to have a picnic or outdoor BBQ.
