About Altamonte Springs, FL

Altamonte Springs, FL is located just due north of downtown Orlando. It is considered part of the Kissimmee-Orlando Metropolitan Statistical Area and is called home by about 41,500 residents. Altamonte (meaning ‘high hill’ in Spanish) was initially founded by Dr. Washington Kilmer, originally from Cincinnati, back in 1870. With an area of 9.5 total square miles, Altamonte Springs has a population density of over 4,600 per square mile. Properties here are typically on the smaller side, but the city does play host to some larger properties as well. There are plenty of places to visit and see in this city on a high hill!

Geographically, Altamonte Springs lies between state road 17-92 and state road 441. Interstate 4 runs directly down the middle of the city and splits it in half. Real estate in this area varies from less than $75,000 to over a million for some of those located on the many lakes that are home to this area. There is plenty of real estate available on or near Spring Lake, Lake Orienta, Lake Prairie, Lake Florida and Lake Adelaide. Sales in these very desirable areas of Altamonte Springs are anywhere from $400,000 all the way up to over 1 million. There has also been recent building and expansion in the area surrounding the Altamonte Mall called Cranes Roost.

The ethnic and age distribution of this area is pretty much the same as the rest of Orlando. Additionally, there is an annual bacon and beer festival that occurs at the same location – Cranes Roost. Adjacent to Cranes Roost is the Altamonte Mall, which is home to an IMAX movie theatre and plenty of stores to shop at. There are a lot of great restaurants in the area, including Bonefish Grill, Bahama Breeze, Millers Ale House, and Seasons 52, just to name a few. There are also a lot of lakes in the area, which are frequented by the local population during the summer time!

The school system in Altamonte Springs varies from school to school. The highest rated elementary school is Lake Orienta Elementary and achieved a score of 8 out of 10. Teague Middle School is also rated an 8 out of 10, as is Lake Brantley High School – the only high school located in the city of Altamonte Springs. This city also boasts a population that has 10% more college graduates than the state average of FL.
